Rockies vie to extend high in game two with D-Rays

Baseball Betting Lines

06/16/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Colorado Rockies will attempt to stretch their winning streak to four games tonight as they take on the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the second contest of a three-game interleague set at Coors Field.

Matt Holliday went 3-for-5 with four RBI as Colorado bested Tampa Bay, 12-2, in last night's series opener.

Todd Helton went 2-for-3 with three RBI and Garrett Atkins hit a two-run homer for the Rockies, who have won five of six to move one game above .500 (34-33). Willy Taveras collected three hits, an RBI, and scored twice, while Jamey Carroll scored a pair of runs in the rout.

Colorado starter Rodrigo Lopez (3-0) exited after six innings, allowing two runs and eight hits with three strikeouts to remain unbeaten in 2007. Jeremy Affeldt, Manny Corpas and Tom Martin combined to shut down the Devil Rays over the final three innings.

James Shields (6-1) suffered his first loss of the season for Tampa Bay, giving up six hits and five runs over six full innings. Shawn Camp was tagged for four hits and four runs over one-third of an inning in relief.

Carlos Pena knocked in a run for the Devil Rays, who have dropped three in a row. Delmon Young added his eighth homer of the season, Jonny Gomes was 3- for-4, and Ty Wigginton had two hits and scored a run.

Rookie right-hander Andy Sonnanstine will try to put the Devil Rays' losing streak to an end when he gets the start tonight. The 24-year-old is making his third career start and is hoping to build off a strong showing against Florida on Sunday.

In that game, he surrendered just two earned runs and seven hits while striking out 10 over seven innings of a 6-4 triumph. It was quite a rebound for Sonnanstine, who was tagged for six earned runs in seven innings in his major league debut against Toronto on June 5th.

Sonnanstine has never faced the Rockies in his brief career.

Colorado is set to counter with Jason Hirsh, who snapped a five-decision losing streak in a 6-1 win over Baltimore on Sunday. In that outing, the right-hander threw the first complete game of his short career and allowed just one earned run and five hits.

Hirsh, who has never faced Tampa Bay before, has struggled at home this season, going 1-4 with a 5.15 ERA in seven starts.

Colorado swept the Devil Rays in three games at Coors Field back in 2002. Tampa returned the favor in 2004, sweeping the Rockies in a three-game series at Tropicana Field.

MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds

With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.

Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season.  Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.
