Halak's 53-save effort helps Canadiens down Caps, force Game 7

Hockey Betting Lines

04/26/2010 - Montreal, QC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jaroslav Halak made 53 saves and Michael Cammalleri netted two first-period goals, as the Montreal Canadiens staved off elimination with a 4-1 win over Washington in Game 6 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series at Bell Centre.

Maxim Lapierre provided some insurance in the third period and Tomas Plekanec's empty-net goal sealed the win for the eighth-seeded Canadiens, who are attempting to come back from a three games to one deficit to win a series for just the second time in team history. Montreal pulled off the feat against Boston in the first round of the 2004 playoffs.

Eric Fehr spoiled Halak's bid for his first career playoff shutout with 4:50 left in regulation. Washington was 0-for-6 on the power play.

Semyon Varlamov, starting his fourth straight game after relieving Jose Theodore during Game 2, stopped 18 shots for the Presidents' Trophy-winning Capitals, who are in danger of sharing the same fate as last year's recipient. Like Washington, San Jose aced the regular season but failed the playoff test, losing to Anaheim in the opening round.

Game 7 is slated for Wednesday in D.C.
